Fort Ord Dunes State Park Beach
This quiet and expansive stretch of beach is situated near Monterey on California’s Central Coast. Once part of the former Fort Ord military base, the four-mile-long beach is now a protected state park.
The dunes which back the beach provide a natural barrier from the wind and add to the beach’s rugged beauty. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including migratory shorebirds and coastal foxes with dolphins or sea otters often spotted offshore.
A scenic trail runs along the dunes, offering panoramic views of Monterey Bay and access to quiet picnic spots. While swimming is not recommended due to strong currents, the beach is perfect for those looking to escape the crowds and experience the raw beauty of California’s coastline.
