Brendan Beach

Set on a remote section of the south coast of New Zealand’s North Island is Brendan Beach. About 20 km from Wellington, it sits among the rugged coastal scenery on the western edge of Palliser Bay.
The beach is known for its isolation, strong winds, and often wild waves, making it a great place for those who enjoy quiet, windswept landscapes.
The shoreline consists of a mix of sand and pebbles, with steep hills rising behind it. The exposed coastline means the weather can be unpredictable, with strong southerly winds common in the area. The beach is also part of the wider Wellington region’s rugged south coast, which has a history of shipwrecks due to its challenging waters.
Brendan Beach is accessible via Ocean Beach Road, though the route can be rough in places. It’s a good spot for walking, fishing, or just taking in the raw beauty of the southern coastline. However, swimmers should be cautious, as the currents and waves can be powerful.
