Playa de Mónsul
Playa de Mónsul is one of the most popular beaches in Almería’s Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. Known for its golden sand, volcanic rock formations, and crystal-clear waters, it is often cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the region.
The beach is bookmarked by volcanic cliffs and features a large, smooth rock formation in the middle of the sand, shaped by wind and waves over time.
The clear, shallow waters are generally ideal for swimming and snorkelling, though the waves can sometimes be strong.
In case you think you recognise Playa de Mónsul, it has been used as a filming location on numerous occasions. It has appeared in films like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and several Spanish productions.
Playa de Mónsul is accessible by car via a dirt road from San José, the nearest town. In summer, visitor numbers are controlled, and there is a shuttle bus service to reduce traffic. There are no beach bars or services, so visitors should bring their own food and water.
