Miners Beach
Miners Beach is one of the finest stretches of the Lake Superior shoreline. Set within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this mile-long sandy beach is backed by dense forest and rugged sandstone cliffs. The contrast between the golden sand, turquoise water, and the towering rock formations makes it a favourite with photographers.
The beach is popular for swimming, although the water temperature of Lake Superior can be quite cold even in summer. Kayakers often launch from here to explore the nearby Pictured Rocks cliffs, home to the famous Miners Castle rock formation. At the eastern end of the beach, Miners River flows into the lake, creating a scenic spot for a paddle.
A short walk from the beach leads to Miners Falls, a picturesque waterfall surrounded by lush forest. Wildlife is plentiful in the area, with bald eagles soaring overhead and the occasional black bear sighting in the surrounding woods.
